Share your WiFi securely on Apple devices

Welcome to another TECH TIP Tuesday from TECH SENIORS — your weekly dose of simple, practical tips to help you use technology with confidence.

This Week’s TECH TIP:

Share your WiFi securely on Apple devices

What It’s About:

Need to help a family member or friend connect to your Wi-Fi but don’t want to say your password out loud (or can’t remember it)? Good news!
On newer iPhones, you can share your Wi-Fi password securely and instantly — no need to type or write it down.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Make sure both iPhones have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.

  2. Have the person you want to share with stand close to you (within a few feet).

  3. They should go to Settings > Wi-Fi and select your Wi-Fi network.

  4. When they tap your network, a pop-up will appear on your iPhone asking if you’d like to share the password.

  5. Tap Share Password, then tap Done.

That’s it! Their device will connect automatically — no need to see or type the password.

Why This Helps:

Sharing your Wi-Fi password this way is fast, safe, and keeps your password private — no sticky notes needed!

Bonus Tip:

This feature works best when both devices are using iOS 17 or later. If it doesn’t appear, make sure you’ve updated your iPhones iOS to that version or later. It also works on Macs that have Mac OS 14 or later!
