TECH TIP #2: How to Unsubscribe from Unwanted Emails

Welcome to another TECH TIP Tuesday from TECH SENIORS — where we share simple tech tips to help you feel more confident and in control.

This Week’s TECH TIP:

How to Unsubscribe from Unwanted Emails

What It’s About:

Are you getting too many emails from stores, websites, or newsletters you don’t remember signing up for? You’re not alone! The good news is you can unsubscribe from most of them in just a few taps — no tech skills needed.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

📱On iPhone (Mail app):

  1. Open the Mail app and tap the email you want to unsubscribe from.

  2. Look at the top of the message — if it’s a subscription email, you’ll often see a blue “Unsubscribe” link near the sender's name.

  3. Tap “Unsubscribe”, then confirm when prompted.

💻 On Computer (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.):

  1. Open the email you want to unsubscribe from.

  2. Near the sender’s name or next to the “To” field, look for an “Unsubscribe” link (sometimes it’s small).

  3. Click it and follow the instructions. Usually, it's just one click.

🖥️ Any Email App/Site

  1. Open the email you want to unsubscribe from.

  2. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the email.

  3. Typically, you can find a very inconspicuous “Unsubscribe” or “Unsubscribe here” link in tiny font.

  4. This should take you to that companies site to confirm that you want to unsubscribe.

    * Be wary of using this method as it can lead you to harmful sites if you’re not careful. This should be a last resort option if the top two are not available. Make sure the email is being sent from an actual company with a @company.com email address.

Why This Helps:

Unsubscribing from unwanted emails helps keep your inbox tidy, reduces stress, and lowers your chances of clicking on spam or scams.

Bonus Tip:

Don’t click “Unsubscribe” in suspicious emails from unknown senders. If an email looks shady, mark it as spam instead of clicking anything.
